December 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Electricity System Operator (ESO) plans to build 11 hydrogen refuelling stations near the country's border crossings and in major cities, it said.
The stations will be located on roads leading to Bulgaria's borders with Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece and Turkey as well as in the cities of Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo, Varna and Burgas, ESO said in a press release on Thursday.

State-owned ESO is also working with the government and municipalities on the planned deployment within five years of a network of nearly 250 electric vehicle charging (EVC) stations across the country.
"The goal is for the national infrastructure of charging stations to ensure the operation of electric vehicles as well as to build a network of hydrogen charging stations for public transport vehicles and heavy trucks at key locations in the country," ESO said in a separate social media post.
The total cost of the project is 93 million euro ($101.9 million). ESO has applied to receive funding for it from the EU Modernisation Fund, an ESO official said earlier this year.
