December 19 (SeeNews) - The construction of a field laboratory for research on renewable energy production and storage at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is now in its final phase, with a hydrogen refuelling station as part of its infrastructure, the academy said on Tuesday.
The hydrogen charging station, the country's first, was manufactured by Austrian company EDC-Anlagentechnik and can be transported for demonstration purposes to sites outside its main location at the academy's Centre of Competence Hitmobil, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said in a press release.

The field laboratory, which is also equipped with a solar photovoltaic park and a wind generator emulator, is expected to be fully operational in the spring of 2024, when the first live demonstrations are scheduled.
The facility will carry out pre-industrial scale research on the generation of energy from renewable sources (RES), its storage in various battery and hydrogen systems, and its distribution to charging stations for battery and hydrogen electric vehicles as well as to the electricity grid, according to the statement.
Last week, the national Electricity System Operator (ESO) unveiled plans to build 11 hydrogen refuelling stations at major roads and cities as well as an electric vehicle charging network.
