September 13 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian car dealers sold 31,920 new cars in the eight months through August, 23.8% more than in the same period a year earlier, the car importers' union, UIAB, said on Thursday.
In the first eight months of the current year new truck sales increased to 1,703 from 1,078 in the same period of 2006. Mercedes-Benz was the most popular brand, selling 603 trucks, a 2.2-fold increase year-on-year. Heavy trucks of between 18 and 44 tonnes dominated this segment.
Sales of new buses rose to 103 in the eight months from 56 in the year-ago period.

Sales of new cars in Bulgaria grew by 27.5% to 42,625 vehicles last year. The Black Sea country of 7.7 million people does not manufacture vehicles.
