December 14 (SeeNews) - Low-cost carrier Wizz Air said that it has added a new aircraft to its fleet in Romanian capital Bucharest and plans to add one more to its base in Cluj, starting March 2017, when it will also launch six new routes from the city in northwestern Romania.
With the acquisition of a 180-seat Airbus A320, Wizz Air expanded its Bucharest fleet to nine aircraft, the air carrier said in a press release on Wednesday.
The new aircraft represents an investment of a further 98 million euro ($103.9 million) and will take the total number of Wizz Air staff in Bucharest to 346, it added.
In a separate press release on Tuesday, Wizz Air said it will add a sixth aircraft to its Cluj fleet in March 2017, when it will also start operating of six new routes - to Stockholm in Sweden, Bratislava in Slovakia, Baden and Frankfurt in Germany, Larnaca in Cyprus, and Malta.
This new aircraft represents an investment of 98 million euro and helped to create creating 36 additional direct jobs to the current staff of 163 employees in Cluj.
In the past 12 months ended on November 30, Wizz Air carried more than 1.3 million passengers to and from its Cluj base, the company added.
Wizz Air has over 750 employees in Romania and a fleet of 20 aircraft, including 4 of the ultra-efficient brand new 230-seat Airbus A321. The company has been present in Romania since 2007 and is currently offering 129 routes to 54 destinations from 10 Romanian airports.
In 2015, Wizz Air carried more than 4.5 million passengers to and from Romania, according to the company's own data.
