April 15 (SeeNews) - Turkey-based motor vehicle manufacturer Ford Otomotiv Sanayi [BIST:FROTO] said that it will suspend production at its plant in Golcuk from April 19 until June 13 due to restrictions in the supply of some parts in which where the use of imported microchips is intensive.
Production will continue in the company's two other plants, in Yenikuy and Eskisehir, Ford Otosan said in a bourse filing on Wednesday.
The industry automotive industry has been impacted by issues in the global supply of semiconductors, Ford Otosan expolained.
"Until now the impact of this global crisis has been minimised by the efforts of our main partner, Ford Motor Company, and the collaboration we have carried out with our suppliers. Nevertheless, following the recent developments, it was decided to bring forward our annual planned summer shutdown," the company said.
During the suspension, the company will continue maintenance works at the Golcuk plant, in Kocaeli province, and rearranging production lines in preparation for new investments. The effects of production loss caused by the suspension will be compensated by acceleration of production activity in the following months, Ford Otomotiv said.
Last month, Ford Otosan said it would invest 2 billion euro ($2.4 billion) in a project for the production of electric commercial vehicles and batteries at its plant in Kocaeli province.
Ford Otosan, founded in 1959, is a joint venture of Turkey's Koc Holding and U.S. automotive giant Ford Motor Company. Ford Otosan is the largest commercial vehicle production center of Ford Europe, thanks to its production capacity of 455,000 commercial vehicles, 70,000 engines and 140,000 powertrains as of the end of 2019, according to data published on the company's website.
