May 20 (SeeNews) - Turkey's General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) signed an initial agreement on the construction and operation of a third airport in Istanbul with the local consortium that won a tender to build the facility, DHMI said on Monday.
A consortium of Turkish construction firms Limak, Cengiz, Kolin, Mapa and Kalyon won on May 3 the government tender for the airport's construction and 25-year lease placing a 22.152 billion euro ($28.462 billion) bid.
The agreement will be submitted for approval to Turkey's transport minister Binali Yildirim. After obtaining his approval, the consortium will set up a joint venture company to carry out the project. An execution agreement will be signed with the new entity, the DHMI said.
