November 15 (SeeNews) - Serbia's health ministry said it detected pesticide residue in further eight types of porridge produced at the Indjija factory of Serbian baby food maker Juvitana, a subsidiary of Swisslion-Takovo.
The sampling of baby food produced by Juvitana showed that fruit porridges with expiry dates in 2017 and 2019 also contain pesticide residue above the the legal limit of 0.003 mg/kg, the health ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Juvitana has halted production activities at its Indjija factory after the health ministry detected pesticide residue in some of its porridges. Juvitana said on Friday it ordered tests of all baby food manufactured at the factory in Indjija, in northern Serbia, and said it will close it permanently if the products turn out to be unhealthy.
Juvitana's factory in Indjija produces baby porridges and juices and is also equipped with an egg processing unit. The baby food programme implies production of thermally sterilised puree and juice in hermetically closed glass containers. The company received a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certificate in 2006.
Swisslion-Takovo controls the entire capital of Juvitana through its subsidiary Kompanija Takovo Gornji Milanovac (BEL:TKVO).
