January 30 (SeeNews) - Serbia's infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said the government plans to start this year a project for the overhaul and electrification of the 100 km Dimitrovgrad-Nis railway line, in the country's east.
The project will include the construction of a bypass around Nis, Mihajlovic said, as quoted in a government statement on Monday.
The overhaul and electrification of the railway line between Nis and Dimitrovgrad, at the border with Bulgaria, will cost 260 million euro ($322 million), the head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Regional Representation for the Western Balkans, Dubravka Negre, said in October.
The European Union (EU) has already approved a 75 million euro grant for the project, while the remainder of the sum will be provided by the Serbian government and the EIB, Negre said at the time.
