June 15 (SeeNews) - Serbia remains military neutral but it is ready to cooperate with NATO to strengthen stability in the Western Balkans, the country's president Aleksandar Vucic has said.
Neutrality is not a hurdle to Serbia's cooperation with NATO in the framework of the Partnership for Piece (PfP) programme, Vucic said during a meeting with the president of NATO parliamentary assembly, Paolo Alli, in Belgrade, according to a statement issued by the Serbian president's office on Wednesday.
Vucic thanked the Kosovo Force (KFOR) for its role as a guarantor of peace in Kosovo.
The participation of a delegation of Serbia's parliament at the annual sessions of the parliamentary assembly of the alliance as an associate member contributes to mutual understanding and trust, Alli said.
Serbia maintains close political ties with Russia and China and refuses to join the Western economic sanctions against Moscow. The country is holding EU accession talks but unlike other Western Balkan states it does not aspire to join NATO.
