BUCHAREST (Romania), December 4 (SeeNews) – Romania's hourly labour costs rose by 13.8% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2019 and were 2.07% higher over the second quarter, the statistical board, INS, announced on Wednesday.
On an annual comparison basis, the hourly labour costs increased in all sectors of economic activity in the third quarter of 2019.
The highest increases of the hourly labour cost in the third quarter compared to the same period in 2018 were observed in education - by 22.91%, in construction - by 21.14%, professional, scientific and technical activities - by 17.63%, accommodation and food service activities - by 16.39% and in arts, entertainment and recreation - by 16.23%.
The lowest increases were registered in human health and social work activities - by 7.40%, water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities - by 9.39%, mining and quarrying - by 9.46%, information and communication - by 9.49% and financial and insurance activities - by 9.52%.
As against the previous quarter, the most significant increase of the hourly labour cost was registered in education by 28.62%, determined by the school holiday and working time reduction.
At a considerable distance, higher increases of the hourly labour cost were registered in public administration by 3.42%, mining and quarrying -by 1.48%, manufacturing - by 1.25%, arts, entertainment and recreation - by 1.22%, respectively transportation and storage - by 1.18%.
The most important decreases of the hourly labour cost were found in financial and insurance activities by 9.90%, real estate activities - by 4.55%, administrative and support service activities - by 2.76% and wholesale and retail trade - by 2.49%.
