December 24 (SeeNews) - The indices of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) closed mostly up on Thursday, the last trading day of the year.
Trading on the BVB will be suspended between December 25 and January 3 for the winter holidays.
The blue-chip BET index of the BVB rose 0.63% to 2,690.57 on Thursday. The BET-FI index, which tracks Romania’s five regional investment funds, the SIFs, shed 0.23% to 23,885.96 points. During 2009 the BET and BET-FI gained around 60% and 90% respectively.
The composite BET-C index closed down 0.15% at 2,714.77, and rose by almost 40% through 2009. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, added 0.27% to 9,674.67 on Thursday.
Last year most BVB indices fell by more than 50%.
BVB's turnover dropped to 29.8 million lei ($10.2 million/7.1 million euro) on Thursday from 77.1 million lei on Wednesday, including 8.6 million lei worth of government securities, 1.3 million lei worth of futures and four deals worth a combined 6.3 million. The four pre-agreed deals were with shares of SIF 5 Oltenia, SIF 2 Moldova, and two with shares of blue-chip bank BRD.
BVB’s total volume of traded shares fell to 45 million from 71.9 million in the previous trading session.
In regular trading BRD lost 2.26% to 13 lei in the day's largest turnover of 2.7 million lei. SIF 2 Moldova ended flat at 1.14 lei on deals worth a total of 2.1 million lei, Thursday’s second highest turnover. SIF 5 Oltenia declined 1.55% to 1.27 lei in the session’s third largest turnover of 1.4 million lei.
SIF 1 Banat Crisana also closed unchanged at 1.13 lei in 1.1 million lei turnover.
Blue-chip refinery Rompetrol Rafinare jumped 4.48% to 0.063 lei in 1.25 million lei turnover, and blue-chip oil and gas group OMV Petrom added 0.4% to 0.249 lei in 528,000 lei turnover.
Blue-chip lender Banca Transilvania advanced by 1.91% to 2.13 lei in deals worth 983,000 lei. Real estate developer Impact Developer & Contractor climbed 2.17% to 0.705 lei in deals worth 700,000 lei.
The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, climbed 0.15% at 461.95 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, rose 0.88% to 596.16 points.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, lost 1.41% to 2,239.51. Turnover on the RASDAQ surged to 14 million lei on Thursday from 1.5 million lei on Wednesday as 175,000 shares of lifting equipment maker Ifma changed hands for a total of 5.0 million lei in two transactions.
Also on RASDAQ some 4.6 million shares of grain milling company Moara Cibin changed hands for a total of 2.2 million lei in 23 transactions.
