ZIARUL FINANCIAR
- Austria's Erste Bank, majority shareholder of Romania's BCR bank, was in talks with the Middle Europe Investments fund to acquire 0.04% of BCR in direct talks rather than in a public offering, Erste officials said.
- The Romanian government will halve the number of government agencies to 112 from 223 now and will restructure 9,466 positions in the public administration, Prime Minister Emil Boc said.
- German construction group Max Boegl has lowered its forecast for turnover from operations in Romania to 75 million euro from 100 million euro due to financing problems, Max Boegl Romania executive director Romeo Botocan said.
- Northern Ireland- based construction company Mivan Kier, one of the largest construction company operating in Romania, was declared insolvent.

- The Swiss National Council approved on Monday the granting of an 170 million euro aid to Romania and Bulgaria within Berne's contribution to the widening of the EU, the agency reported quoting Radio Suisse Romande.
- Romania's Helath Ministry said it will allocate 31 million lei for the purchase of a second lot of anti-viral medicine against the A/H1N1 flu in the next two months
- Romanian President Traian Basescu cannot be member of any political party under the country's constitution and that's why he will run for a second term as an independent candidiate backed by the Democratic Liberal Party, party leader Mircea Toader said.
- Romanian footwear retailer Leonardo closed 30 unprofitable shops and laid off 600 employees so far this year under its restructuring plan, Leonardo's advisor Ensight Management Consulting said.

- First-half revenue of Romanian state-owned railway freight carrier CFR Marfa decreased by 41.2% on the year to 514.8 million lei due to falling traffic and the loss of some large clients, data from the country's Transport Minstry showed. Passenger railway carrier CFR Calatori also reported a 13.1% annual fall in its traffic in the first half of 2009.
