December 22 (SeeNews) - Romania has signed a 328 million euro ($361 million) deal with Rheinmetall AG for the overhaul the country's air defence artillery systems, the German arms producer said on Friday.
As part of the deal, Rheinmetall is to deliver four systems as well as training, spare parts and other services. Two systems are to be delivered within the next two years, and two more within three years.
This marks Rheinmetall's first major order from Romania, the company said in a press release.
"[...] the order will bolster the defensive capabilities of the EU and NATO on Europe’s eastern flank," said Armin Papperger, chairman of the executive board of Rheinmetall.
Each of the systems ordered includes a fire control system called Oerlikon Skymaster TLCN, a tracking radar called X-Band Tactical Acquisition Radar 3D (X-TAR3D), six 35mm cannons called GDF009 TREO Oerlikon Twin Guns, and two trucks to carry the fire control system and tracking radar.
Rheinmetall said in April it is building a military maintenance and logistics hub in Satu Mare, Romania, to service weapons used for the war in Ukraine.
