May 11 (SeeNews) - Combined passenger numbers at the Bulgarian coastal airports of Varna and Burgas rose 17.0% year-on-year in the January-April period, reaching 204,198, Germany’s Fraport Group, which operates the airports, said on Thursday.
Passenger traffic at Varna airport rose 26.7% year-on-year to 151,746 in January-April, while passenger numbers at Burgas airport fell 4.2% to 52,452, Fraport said in a statement.
Combined aircraft movements at the two airports edged up by an annual 0.4% to 2,655 in the review period.
The two airports handled 4,543 tonnes of cargo in the first four months of 2017, down 1.6% year-on-year.
In April alone, passenger numbers at the two airports rose 35.9% year-on-year to 78,165, while aircraft landings and take-offs increased 2.9% to 855. The two airports handled 1,042 tonnes of cargo in April, down 29% on the year.
In 2006, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, a 60/40 joint venture of Fraport and Bulgarian company BM Star, won a 35-year concession to manage the two airports.
