SKOPJE (North Macedonia), May 18 (SeeNews) – Passenger numbers at North Macedonia’s international airports in Skopje and Ohrid decreased 53% year-on-year to 205,050 in the first four months of 2021, Aeroports de Paris (ADP) said.
ADP owns 46% of Turkey’s TAV Airports, the company operating the airports in Skopje and the lakeside city of Ohrid.
In April alone, North Macedonia’s international airports served 49,850 passengers, up by 47,997 passengers from April 2020, whereas in the last 12 months through April, passenger traffic slumped 77% to 555,886, ADP said in a statement on Monday.
Aircraft movement at the airports fell 25% on the year to 2,942 in the January-April period, while in the last 12 months the figure plunged by an annual 60% to 8,040. In April alone, aircraft movement at the airports reached 826, up by 669 from the same month last year.
North Macedonia confirmed its first case of coronavirus on February 26. In mid-March, the government ordered the closure of its two airports to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The two airports reopened in July.
