May 22 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's newly elected president Jakov Milatovic took an oath of office, pledging to work for the country's economic promotion and acceleration of its progress on the path to EU membership.
"I swear that I will perform the duties of the president responsibly, honorably, conscientiously, fairly and impartially, according to the Constitution and the law," Milatovic said at the inauguration ceremony on Saturday, as seen in a video file posted on the parliament's YouTube channel.
Milatovic won the presidential election held in April, ousting Milo Djukanovic, who had been serving as either president or prime minister for more than 30 years.
Montenegro started membership talks with the EU in June 2012. So far all the 33 screened chapters have been opened, of which 3 are provisionally closed.
