February 7 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's Podgorica city government has signed a 6.6 million euro ($7.2 million) contract for the construction of a wastewater collector with local company Bemax, it said.
The collector will have a total length of 5.5 km and will connect the existing Podgorica wastewater treatment plant to a similar facility that the city government will build, it said in a statement on Thursday.
The construction of the collector represents one of four stages in the development of a 50 million euro wastewater treatment system, the mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vukovic, said in the statement.
"Thanks to a grant from the German government, we conducted two studies that defined the concept and financial scope of the project, after which two favourable loan arrangements totalling 35 million euro were signed with German development bank KfW," deputy mayor Caslv Vesovic said.
Grants worth 10 million euro were also provided by the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), which allowed the city government to complete the project's financial structure, Vesovic added.
The construction works of the new collector will take a year.
