August 24 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's government plans to soon approve the import of Russia's Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccine to expand the range of coronavirus immunisation options available in the country.
Montenegro will execute the necessary procedures for the import of the Sputnik Light vaccine as soon as possible, healthcare minister Jelena Borovinic Bojovic said in a press release on Monday.
The existence of another vaccine available to Montenegrin citizens in the fight against COVID-19 is very important, Borovinic Bojovic said during a meeting in Podgorica with Alexander Gintsburg, the head of Russia's Gamaleya Institute where the vaccine was developed.
Sputnik Light is a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine that can be stored at a normal refrigerator temperature and, according to the Gamaleya Institute, it would be ideally suited for areas with acute outbreaks, allowing more people to be vaccinated quickly. It will also be used as a third dose for those who received Sputnik V at least six months earlier.
