August 2 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's transport ministry said it signed a road transport cooperation deal with Kosovo, in order to facilitate the cross-border movement of freight and passengers.
Montenegro is working to harmonise new agreements in the field of road transport with both countries from the region and wider Europe, Montenegrin transport minister Osman Nurkovic said, according to a press release issued by the ministry on Wednesday.
The agreement will open the way for transport of cargo between Montenegro and Kosovo without permits, Nurkovic said.
"One of the goals of our ministry is to remove administrative barriers, and in this sense, this agreement regulates relations in the field of international road transport in a modern way to facilitate the flow of goods and passengers," Nurkovic added.
Kosovo is interested in the construction of a road tunnel that will link Rozaje in Montenegro to Pec in Kosovo, Kosovo's transport minister Pal Lekaj said in the statement.
The negotiations on the project started a year and a half ago, it received the support of prime ministers Dusko Markovic of Montenegro and Ramush Haradinaj of Kosovo and hopefully it would be put on the agenda of both governments, Nurkovic said in May.
