October 31 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's parliament voted in a new government on Tuesday, led by the the pro-European Europe Now party and including pro-Russian and pro-Serbian parties.
The government will be led by prime minister Milojko Spajic of the Europe Now party, which won by a slim margin in the crowded June parliamentary elections, leading to prolonged coalition talks.
The new coalition includes pro-Russian and pro-Serbian parties, particularly the For the Future of Montenegro alliance, which opposes recognising Kosovo and does not support sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
The main goals of the new government are accelerating the accession of Montenegro to the European Union and resolving issues in the judicial system, Spajic was quoted as saying by state broadcaster RTCG following an overnight debate.
The government was approved following an extended overnight debate, with the support of 46 out of 66 MPs present in the 81-member parliament.
In the presidential elections, held in April, Europe Now's Jakov Milatovic won the run-off vote, ousting Milo Djukanovic who has been serving as either president or prime minister for more than 30 years.
