September 17 (SeeNews) - The insurance companies operating in Macedonia reported a combined premium income of 2.988 billion denars ($70.8 million/48.2 million euro) in the first half of 2009, down from 3.045 billion denars a year earlier, Finance Ministry data indicated on Thursday.
Non-life insurance premiums totalled 2.855 billion denars and life insurance premiums accounted for the remainder, the Ministry said in its first-half report posted on its website.
The Macedonian insurers reported a combined premium income of 6.421 billion denars in 2008, up from 6.109 billion denars a year earlier.
A total of 12 insurers operate in Macedonia, a country of some two million people.
