December 13 (SeeNews) - Japan Tobacco International (JTI) will invest $51 million (48 million euro) in its Serbian operations over the next five years to improve production and expand capacity, the Serbian government said.
JTI opened a new production line worth $16 million, which will double the company's capacities at its factory in the northern town of Senta, the government said in a press release on Monday.
The company also plans to establish a research and development centre for cigarette production and packaging equipment.
By the end of January, JTI plans to complete the construction of a modern cigarette warehouse and tobacco warehouse at the plant.
JTI entered the Serbian market through the acquisition of tobacco processing company Duvanska Industrija Senta in 2006.
