June 2 (SeeNews) - Japan International Tobacco (JTI) said on Thursday it has named Alexander Pitchka as general manager for Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria.
Alexander Pitchka joined JTI in 1997, as part of the Global Supply Chain division in Ukraine, JTI said in a press release.
"We have a market share of over 30% and we continue to grow organically," Alexander Pitchka said.
The Romanian management team also coordinates the JTI's business in Moldova and Bulgaria.
JTI has been on the Romanian market since 1993. The Geneva-headquartered tobacco manufacturer employs approximately 1,200 staff in Romania, across its two local entities: manufacturing and trading. The company paid over 4.77 billion lei in excise, VAT and other taxes, duties and contributions to the Romanian state in 2020, up 12% on the year.
In July, JTI Romania announced it had booked 731 million lei ($158.2 million/ 147.9 million euro) profit in 2020, up 34% on the year, as well as a total turnover of 6.3 billion lei, up by an annual 16%.
In March 2021, the tobacco manufacturer had announced it would invest 60 million euro ($64 million) to upgrade its factory in Romania.
A member of the Japan Tobacco group, JTI is one of the world's largest manufacturers of tobacco and vaping products, with operations in over 130 countries.
