LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), March 20 (SeeNews) – French car maker Renault said on Friday it will move excess production of its Clio II model from its Slovenian plant in Novo Mesto to Flins, in France.
The plant in Flins will produce the Clio II and III models, enabling Novo Mesto to assemble more Twingo vehicles to meet the strong demand, Renault said in a statement.
"There will be no impact on employment in Novo Mesto. They will keep the same number of employees," a spokeswoman for Renault told SeeNews.
The move will enable Renault to create 400 jobs in Flins. The plant will produce 8,000 units of the Clio II model between June and October.
"Novo Mesto will still produce Clio and Twingo. The thing is that they will produce more Twingo cars", the spokeswoman added.
Renault's Slovenian unit Revoz produced 198,096 cars in 2008, slightly down from its record-high output of 200,162 cars a year earlier. Cars of the Twingo model accounted for two-thirds of the total production and the rest were Clio II cars.
The maximum annual output capacity of the Slovenian factory is 210,000 of Twingo and Clio II compact passenger cars.
