April 6 (SeeNews) - Croatia's Rijeka airport said it will be open 24 hours a day as a result of the closure of Zagreb airport overnight for maintenance works on its runway.
Zagreb airport will be closed for all traffic from 22:35 to 6:35 every day except for Monday and Friday when it will be shut from 0:00 to 6:35, for a period of up to two months, Rijeka airport explained in a statement earlier this week.
Croatia's ministry of transport has decided to keep Rijeka airport open around the clock to receive aircraft that will be unable not land in Zagreb due to the closure.
On Tuesday, Zagreb airport told SeeNews the maintenance works will not "interfere with regular traffic flow".
According to local media reports, the Zagreb airport works will include repair of damages that have occurred since the last overhaul of the runway carried out in 2010.
In March last year, Zagreb airport opened a new passenger terminal which took three years to build. The new terminal is able to process 5 million passengers per year, while further extensions envisaged will potentially increase capacity to eight million passengers.
