April 8 (SeeNews) - Croatia’s state-run environment protection and energy efficiency fund said on Monday it is inviting applications from individuals for grants for the purchase of electric vehicles in the total amount of 15 million euro ($16 million).
The financial incentives range from 2,500 euro to 9,000 euro per car and target buyers of vehicles of electric, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen drive, the fund said in a notice published on its website.
Every individual can apply for a grant for the purchase of one green vehicle. The subsidy scheme aims to increase by 0.1% the share of green cars in the total number of vehicles registered in Croatia. It is estimated that thanks to the scheme 2,000 new such vehicles will be registered, the fund added.
Croatia started 2024 with 6,417 registered electric vehicles, according to data from the local association of owners of such vehicles Strujni Krug. New registrations of battery-powered electric vehicles in Croatia rose 19.6% last year to 1,637, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has said. The share of electric vehicles is estimated at up to 0.4% of all registered vehicles in the Adriatic country of 3.8 million people.
The environmental protection and energy efficiency fund is the central point for collecting and investing extra budgetary resources in the programmes and projects for environment protection, energy efficiency and use of renewables, according to its website.
