April 2 (SeeNews) - Turkey's health minister Fahrettin Koca said that the number of coronavirus cases in Turkey has risen to 15,679, as the infection has claimed 277 lives, local media reported.

In the past 24 hours, 2,148 new patients were diagnosed with the COVID-19 disease, Koca said at a press conference on Wednesday, as reported by Sabah Daily.

The number of recoveries has increased to 333.

The country has confirmed coronavirus cases in all of its 81 provinces, Koca was quoted as saying. Some 60% of the total number of cases are from Istanbul.

Among the patients diagnosed with the coronavirus, there are 601 health workers.

The country has quarantined a total of 41 towns and areas as of Monday, as well as suspended all international flights and ordered the closure of schools and universities. Turkey has also enforced a nationwide all-day curfew on weekends for people aged 65 or over, as well as citizens with chronic conditions.
