June 21 (SeeNews) - Chinese shipbuilding company Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) has no serious intentions to enter into a strategic partnership with Croatia's 3 Maj shipyard, the Adriatic country's economy minister said as quoted by local media reported on Friday.
"At this moment, there are no serious intentions on the part of the biggest Chinese shipbuilder, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation - CSIC, to purchase or enter into a strategic partnership with 3 Maj, still part of the Uljanik Group," Darko Horvat said, as quoted by news portal tportal.hr.
The ministry is looking for ways to ensure that ships under construction in the shipyard are completed and delivered, he added.
However, Horvat also said that that the Chinese company has serious plans to enter joint projects with the Brodarski shipbuilding institute in Zagreb.
In May, a Croatian court launched bankruptcy proceedings against Uljanik Group, several days after the court opened such proceedings against its key member Uljanik shipyard.
The Uljanik Group has been in financial trouble for some time due to the adverse effects of the global financial crisis on the shipbuilding sector in general which has led to a drop in orders for new vessels.
