The relevance of the topic is beyond dispute; fighting climate change is an increasingly urgent, long-term challenge that we have to face and address in every aspect of our lives. This year, between 7-8 October the Budapest Climate Summit will convene once again climate and sustainability stakeholders from Central and Eastern Europe and beyond to discuss the path of our green recovery
and network in person.
As a niche event focusing on the green transition of the CEE region’s economy, the Budapest Climate Summit is ideally placed to take a prominent role in connecting policymakers, the business ecosystem and innovators by providing a platform to discuss the driving trends of the region’s green transition and to identify the opportunities and challenges ahead of us.
The Summit will be organised under the honorary patronage of János Áder, President of the Republic of Hungary who will open the conference.
One of the main focus of the Budapest Climate Summit is to present how business leaders, coming from a range of sectors including energy, transport, retail, communication, finance or infrastructure transform their operations to become competitive, sustainable, inclusive economies that will deliver net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The Summit will feature executives of leading companies such as TESCO, E.ON, MET Group, Dentons, GE, Vodafone, Porsche Hungaria, Allianz, MVM, Mavir and Pannonia Bio among many others who will present their business strategy to address sustainable transformation on the road towards a low-carbon economy.
The recently adopted “Fit for 55 package” of the European Commission is a game-changing proposal both for European and international climate and energy policy. Mauro Petriccione, Director-General, European Commission's DG CLIMA will share the Commission’s view on how we can deliver on our commitment of becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
Alongside the European Union’s climate goals, the economies of Central and Eastern European countries have also made significant commitments towards the decarbonisation of their economies.
At the Budapest Climate Summit Barna Tánczos, Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests of Romania will speak abou the climate strategy and long-term policy goals of the Romania. Attila Steiner, State Secretary for the Development of Circular Economy, Energy and Climate Policy will present Hungary’s climate ambitions. The Summit will also feature a V4 panel discussion to demonstarte the climate cooperation in the region.
Smart urban solutions will pave the way towards the development of sustainable and green and city ecosystems. Pekka Timonen, Mayor of Lahti will share the best practices of the greenest city in Finland, which was chosen as the European Green Capital in 2021.
Climate change gives rise to investment risks but also opportunities, therefore the future of sustainable finance will be high on the agenda of the Budapest Climate Summit with speakers from major global stakeholders such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and WorldBank.
