November 12 (SeeNews) - Solar power company Canadian Solar said on Tuesday it has delivered 2.3 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic (PV) modules to a consortium of Turkish firms Besler Tekstil and Hascelik ve Halat.
The modules will be used in a solar power project in the central Turkish province of Kayseri, Canadian Solar said in a statement.
"Considering that the cumulative installed PV capacity in Turkey since 1996 is just 6 to 7 MW it is clear that with these two sales contracts, Canadian Solar has reached a milestone in this important emerging market," Canadian Solar's CEO Shawn Qu said in the statement.
Besler Tekstil produces and exports cotton carded and combed yarn and Hascelik produces mainly steel strand for the cable sector.
Founded in 2001 in Canada, Nasdaq-listed Canadian Solar Inc. is a vertically integrated provider of solar modules, specialized solar products and solar power plants with operations across the globe. It has manufacturing subsidiaries across China and Canada with 2.5 gigawatts of solar module production capacity.
