January 31 (SeeNews) - The combined net profit of the banks operating in Bulgaria increased to 1.68 billion levs ($986 million/859 million euro) in 2018, from 1.17 billion in 2017, the country's central bank said on Thursday.
Interest income of Bulgarian banks remained virtually unchanged at 3.04 billion levs in both 2018 and 2017, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a regular report on the performance of the country's banks.
Fee and commission income rose to 1.25 billion levs in the period under review from 1.15 billion levs a year earlier.
The banking sector's net operating income grew to 4.22 billion levs in 2018 from 3.89 billion levs the year before.
The banks' total assets increased to 105.6 billion levs at the end of 2018, from 97.8 billion levs a year earlier.
