MONITOR
- A 42-million levs waste treatment plant was opened near the city of Plovdiv on Thursday. The plant can treat 125,000 tonnes of waste a year.
- Bulgaria is expected to start repairs of 660 kilometres of secondary roads at a projected cost of 216 million levs in March, the Regional Development Ministry said.
- Bondholders of insolvent steel mill Kremikovtzi will become owners of 80% of the plant if a local court endorses the proposed recovery plan calling for a debt-for-equity swap, Kremikovtzi receiver Tsvetan Bankov said. The plan also calls for an increase of the steel mill's capital by 944 million levs to 962 million levs.

- Interest rates on bank loans are expected to fall by 0.5% - 1.0% next year, the cheif executive director of United Bulgarian Bank, Stilian Vatev, said.
- A newcomer to the Sofia bourse, Greek-owned food processing and retail company Bogatsa.com plans to invest 300,000 euro in a factory for frozen pasta products in Bulgaria next year, the company's manager Demetris Skordakis said. The company also plans to open three stores in Bulgaria.

- Furniture sales in Bulgaria are expected to fall by 40% this year due to an estimated drop in demand by 50% as compared to the end of 2008, said Kalin Simeonov, chairman of the Wood Processing and Furnitre Chamber, a local lobby group.
