October 26 (SeeNews) - The main platform of Henri Coanda International Airport will be expanded by 15,000 sq m, following a 12.69 million lei ($3.1 million/2.7 million euro) investment, the airport's operator, CNAB, said on Friday.
"The new investment will provide the processing capacity needed to accommodate growing airport traffic, resulting in a 10% increase in the capacity of the platforms," CNAB general manager Traian Panait said, as quoted in a company press release.
The expansion works will be carried out by a tie-up of Construction Company Napoca and UTI Grup over a six-month period.
CNAB operates Bucharest's main airport Henri Coanda and a smaller one, Aurel Vlaicu.
A total of 42 airlines are currently operating at Henri Coanda International Airport, servicing more than 152 destinations.
On Wednesday, CNAB announced that Austrian low-cost airline Laudamotion will launch flights from Romania's capital Bucharest to Vienna on October 28.
