April 16 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's consumer price inflation quickened to 2.2% year-on-year in March, from 2.0% in the previous month, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday.
On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices edged down by 0.3% in March, after rising by 0.3% in February, NSI said in its monthly inflation report.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which have the largest weight of 31.3% in the consumer basket, added 1.2% year-on-year in March, while prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (18.22% weight) rose 5.0%.
Prices in the transport segment (8.8% weight) rose 1.3% year-on-year in March.
Bulgaria’s EU-harmonised consumer price index (HICP) rose 1.9% on the year in March and was 0.2% lower compared to February.
