September 27 (SeeNews) - Malaysian firms Perak Halal Corporation and Marrybrown have signed contracts worth a total of 24.5 million euro ($27.3 million) with two Bosnian companies for the production and distribution of halal-certified food in the Balkan country, local media reported on Friday.
Perak Halal has signed a contract worth 20 million euro with Bosnia's AS Group, while Marrybrown has sealed a deal worth 4.5 million euro with Donji Vakuf-based ESOF, news portal eKapija.com reported.
Under the first deal, Perak Halal Corporation and AS Group will produce chicken meat and eggs at the facility of former food manufacturer Agrokomerc in Velika Kladusa, some 350 km north-west of Sarajevo, on the Croatian border. AS Group's subsidiary AC Food took over Agrokomerc's production units back in 2017.
Under the second deal, Marrybrown and ESOF will collaborate in the fast food sector, which includes the distribution and sales of foods and drinks under the Malaysian brand.
Marrybrown operates fast food restaurants in Malaysia, while ESOF produces, repurchases and distributes environmentally sustainable organic food.
The contracts were signed in the Bosnian capital at the sidelines of the Sarajevo Halal Fair 2019, which takes place on September 26-28.
Halal certified foods are prepared according to the Islamic law, and are free from pork products, alcohol and certain other ingredients.
