BUCHAREST (Romania), September 20 (SeeNews) – Diagnostic laboratory specialist Synevo, part of Sweden-based Medicover Group, on Wednesday opened a 1 million euro ($1.2 million) digital histopathology centre near Romania's capital Bucharest.
The centre is the biggest of its kind in Southeastern Europe, Synevo said in a press release. Histopathology focuses on the microscopic examination of tissue in order to study the manifestations of disease.
"The complete digitization of histopathological diagnosis requires the adoption of the latest technologies in the field, currently used only in a few laboratories in Western Europe," Synevo's general manager Laurenţiu Luca said.
The center uses a scanning system that replaces classical microscopic analysis of tissue samples with a scanning system that provides superior image quality. This significantly reduces analysis and diagnosis time and provides access to the opinion of all pathologists in the Medicover network of diagnostic laboratories, Synevo said.
The company added that digitization of the tissue analysis process will not affect patient costs, but will only allow for increased diagnostic accuracy and speed.
Synevo has 75 national blood and analysis centers, a network of 16 laboratories and a regional analysis center in Bucharest.
Formerly known as Rombel, Synevo became part of Medicover in 1995.
Medicover has been present for over 21 years on the local private medical services market and has a network of 25 own clinics across the country.
Medicover group posted a 18% annual increase in revenues to 36 million euro in the first six months of the year.
