October 19 (SeeNews) - Sweden will donate 26 million euro ($27.4 million) to Moldova to support its energy supply and energy efficiency, the Swedish foreign ministry said.
The funds will help vulnerable households in Moldova get through the winter while also assisting with infrastructure growth and long-term energy efficiency improvements, the foreign ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
Of the total, some 17 million euro will go towards the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support its work in Moldova. The remainder will go directly to an energy fund established by Moldova and the United Nations Development Programme.
"Moldova has been severely affected by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. With this support package, we will help Moldova at this critical stage," Swedish minister for international development cooperation and foreign trade, Johan Forssell, was quoted as saying.
Sweden has provided 17 million euro in ongoing reform support to Moldova in 2023.
