October 28 (SeeNews) - Passenger traffic at Bulgaria's main airport in Sofia increased by 15% year-on-year to 3.6 million in the first nine months of the year, the airport operator said on Friday.
The number of passengers on regular international routes jumped 18% on the year in the January-September period, mainly due to the twenty new routes launched in this period and the increased frequency of some routes, Sofia airport said in a statement.
Aircraft movements at Sofia Airport rose 13% on the year, the airport said without providing information about their exact number. In the like period last year 33,767 planes departed and arrived from the airport.
The airport handled 13% more cargo and postal shipments in the January-September period, compared to 13,408 tonnes in the first nine months of 2015.
In September alone, the airport handled 500,000 passengers, up 26% year-on-year.
