March 29 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's Koper municipality expects a record-high number of 81 passenger ships to be handled by the local port in 2023, up from last year's 65, it said.
The total capacity of all 81 passenger ships that will visit Koper this year is 124,000 passengers and over 61,000 crew members, Koper municipality said in a statement earlier this week.
The port of Koper is expected to receive its first passenger ship for 2023, the Viking Sky of Viking Cruises, on April 1, Koper municipality said.
According to data from Slovenia's statistical office, the country's seaports served 103,672 passengers in 2022, up from only 6,773 in the previous year.
Koper recorded a maritime throughput of 23.2 million tonnes last year, up 12% from 20.8 million tonnes in 2021, with container traffic increasing to 1.018 million TEUs from 997,574 TEUs. The port broke its vehicle transshipment record in 2022, handling 1.394 million units, up from 656,477 in 2021.
