December 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian railway company BDZ Passengers, part of state-owned railway group BDZ Holding, signed two contracts worth nearly 85 million levs ($47.8 million/43.45 million euro) with consortium Siemens Tron for the supply of spare parts and maintenance of 15 Siemens Smartron locomotives, the holding said.
The contract for nine-year maintenance of the 15 Siemens X4-E-Lok-D electric locomotives amounts to 83.8 million levs, whereas the contract for the supply of spare parts for these trains is worth 867,000 levs, BDZ Holding said in a press release on Thursday. The contracts were awarded following a public procurement process.
As part of the maintenance contract, Siemens Tron, led by Siemens' transport subsidiary Siemens Mobility, will perform scheduled inspections, replace monoblock wheels and brake discs, and conduct emergency repairs, and safety inspections.
The contract will ensure the ongoing service of the locomotives, which Siemens delivered between 2020 and 2021, as their warranty period expires next year.
