BELGRADE (Serbia), February 25 (SeeNews) – Serbia's president Tomislav Nikolic has authorised the country's defence minister to put the army on alert due to heightened migrant tensions on the Macedonian border, local media reported on Thursday.
After a meeting of the national security council, justice minister Nikola Selakovic told reporters that the President's authorisation doesn't automatically lead to deploying army units at the Macedonian border, but allows the defence minister to put the army on full alert in order to protect people and property if necessary, Politika daily informed.
That is if the country’s police forces are not capable to defend the borders, Selakovic added.
Earlier on Thursday, Bulgaria green-lighted the аrmy to keep its borders safe in case police forces are insufficient.
