January 30 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government plans to launch a tender for the operation of ten subsidised flights from the Konstantin Veliki Airport in Nis, a government official said.
"The government plans to adopt on Thursday a regulation allowing the establishment of lines of public interest which will be mainly focused on the Nis airport," Zoran Ilic, an advisor to the minister of infrastructure, said in a video file posted on the YouTube channel of news portal Belle Amie on Tuesday.
Flag carrier Air Serbia is expected to participate in the tender, along with other companies, as the competition will be opened to international participants, Ilic said.
Nis airport plans to complete a project for the reconstruction of its existing terminal building this year, in order to be able to cope with the expected rise in passenger traffic, the director of the airport, Dusan Knezevic, said in the video file.
In August, Serbia's government said it signed a contract to take over the management of Nis airport from the city government, in order to enhance investments in the facility.
