November 3 (SeeNews) - Serbia is in talks for the acquisition of a minority stake of up to 12% in Hungarian nuclear power plant (NPP) Paks, President Aleksandar Vucic said.
"Let us see if we can become owners of 5%, 10% or 12% of Paks," Vucic said, as seen in a video file posted on the YouTube channel of his personal website earlier this week.
Belgrade has also been in talks for participating in Bulgaria's Belene nuclear power project with the government of former prime minister Boyko Borisov, Vucic said on the sidelines of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.
The Paks NPP is equipped with four pressurised water reactors with a capacity of 500 MW each, whose licences expire in the period between 2032 and 2037. The Hungarian government is currently implementing a project with Russia’s state nuclear construction company Rosatom to build two units of 1,200 MW each to replace the old reactors.
