November 3 (SeeNews) - Russia's Transmashholding said that its unit Metrovagonmash has delivered 12 overhauled trains to Metropoliten, the company operating the underground railway network in Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The delivery was made according to Metrovagonmash's agreement signed with Metropoliten in March 2020 for the modernisation of 40 trains for the needs of Sofia metro operator, Transmashholding said in a press release last week.
According to the agreement, the 40 trains are be overhauled within three years, with 12 in each of the first two years and 16 in the third.
In February 2020, Metrovagonmash delivered eight overhauled trains to Sofia metro according to a contract signed in December 2018, after which the agreement for 40 more trains was signed. The overhaul will extend the life span of those trains by 15 years.
Metrovagonmash has cooperated with the Sofia subway since 1998. Metropoliten currently uses 168 trains manufactured by the Russian company.
