November 16 (SeeNews) - Romania's organic farming area as a percentage of total crop area in the country was the second lowest in the European Union in 2016, Eurostat said on Thursday.
Within the bloc, Romania's share of organic farming area - 1.6% of the total crop area - was higher only compared to Malta where it was 0.21%, Eurostat said in a statement.

On the opposite end of the table, in Austria the organic farming area accounted for 21.25% of the country's total crop area, the highest share in the EU.
In Bulgaria 3.2% of the total crop area was allocated to organic farming. In Croatia this share was 6.05%.
Slovenia led the EU member states in Southeast Europe with a 9.12% share.
