May 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output edged down by an annual 3.6% in January-March, the statistical office, INS, said on Friday.
Romania's January-March energy production totalled 4.496 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 3.640 million TOE, down 1.6% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 17 TWh in January-March, down 3.7% on the year.
In the first quarter, thermal power plants generated some 5.63 TWh of electricity, down 7% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations fell 25.2% to 3.37 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant rose 4.7% on the year to some 3.02 TWh in January-March.
Wind farms generated 2.5 TWh, up by 23.9%, and solar plants produced 0.35 TWh, 18% higher on the year, in the first three months of the year.
January-March final electricity consumption fell by an annual 2% to 13.9 TWh.
The country's electricity exports fell by 9.3% to 1.46 TWh in January-March, while imports rose 13.1% on the year to 2.12 TWh.
The country produced 732,700 TOE of crude oil, down 5.2% on the year, and 696,000 TOE of coal, up 09% on the year, in the first three months of 2022. Natural gas production decreased 5.9% year-on-year, reaching 1.79 million TOE.
Romania's energy production rose 1.7% year-on-year to 18.47 million TOE in 2021.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
