July 30 (SeeNews) - Romanian hydro power producer Hidroelectrica has received five bids for the refurbishment of Vidraru hydropower plant (HPP), a project worth 82.2 million euro ($91.7 million), it said.
The bids were placed by Austria's Voith Hydro; China's Sinohydro; a consortium of Romelectro and Czech company Litostroj; a consortium of GE Hydro France, Spain's Elecnor and Grid Solutions Romania; and a consortium of Turkey's Gulsan Insaat and China's ZHEFU Holding Group, Hidroelectrica said in a statement on Monday.

"The works will be financed by the company's own sources and we want, in exchange for the money we are willing to spend, to ensure a new life cycle of at least 30 years for Vidraru," Hidroelectrica directorate president Bogdan Badea said.
Earlier this year, Badea said that the contractor will be selected through bilateral negotiations and not through competitive bids.
The procedure for selecting a contractor of the refurbishment of Vidraru was cancelled twice, in 2018 and 2017, following the submission of non-compliant offers.
Built between 1961-1966 on the Arges River, the Vidraru HPP was designed to operate predominantly at the top of the load chart, with an installed capacity of 220 MW and an annual average energy output of 400 GWh.
