February 12 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy production fell 9.8% year-on-year to 17.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2020, provisional data from the country's statistical office, INS, showed on Friday.
Romania's own electricity output plus the country's imports fell by 1.3% year-on-year to 63.65 TWh in 2020, INS said in a statement.
The country’s electricity exports rose by 33.9% year-on-year to 4.80 TWh, as imports more than rose by an annual 48.8% to 7.6 TWh.
Thermal power plants generated 20.42 TWh in 2020, down 14.2% on the year, while hydroelectric power output fell 2.1% to 15.4 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda rose 1.7% on the year to 11.46 TWh in 2020.
Electricity generated from wind farms in 2020 rose 3.1% to 6.95 TWh, while photovoltaic power stations generated 1.7 TWh in the review period, down 1.8% on the year.
Final electricity consumption in Romania fell by an annual 3.3% to 53.4 TWh in 2020.
Romania produced 3.23 million TOE of crude oil in 2020, down 3.1% on the year, and 2.56 million TOE of coal, down 29.9% on the year. The country also produced 7.29 million TOE of natural gas, down 9.7% year-on-year.
TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
