BUCHAREST (Romania), November 9 (SeeNews) – Romanian share indices closed firmly higher on Monday, helped mostly by strong gains in blue-chip lender Banca Transilvania, whose stock surged by more than six percent, brokers said.
Banca Transilvania surged 6.38% to 2.0 lei, the stock’s highest price so far this year, on deals worth a total of 3.2 million lei, Monday’s second largest turnover.
The blue-chip BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, rose 2.53% to 4,587.91 points. The BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, gained 2.61% to 20,555.38 points.
The composite BET-C index added 2.02% to 2,661.46. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, jumped 3.52% to 9,776.34.
BVB's turnover decreased to 17.9 million lei ($6.2 million/4.2 million euro) from 28.9 million lei on Friday. The number of traded shares decreased to 22 million from 40.9 million on Friday.
Austria’s Erste Bank jumped 5.46% to 131.4 lei in the day's largest turnover of 3.4 million lei. SIF 3 Transilvania closed 1.72% higher at 0.59 lei on the regular market in the session’s third largest turnover of 2.5 million lei. The other blue-chip lender, BRD, was up 3.17% to 13 lei in 1.2 million lei turnover.
SIF 5 Oltenia rose 3.85% to 1.08 lei in turnover of 2.3 million lei. SIF 2 Moldova advanced 3.28% to 0.945 lei in deals worth 1.7 million lei. SIF 1 Banat Crisana climbed 2.59% to 0.99 lei in 674,400 lei turnover.
Blue-chip oil and gas group OMV Petrom added 1.63% to 0.625 lei in deals worth a total of 649,000 lei. Blue-chip gas transmission company Transgaz ticked 0.2% higher to 149.7 lei in deals worth 193,000 lei.
The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, gained 2.78% to 435.38 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, was up 0.62% to 582.22 points.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, edged up 0.2% to 2,264.76. Turnover on the RASDAQ dropped to 266,500 lei from 1.0 million lei on Friday.
