October 12 (SeeNews) - Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu nominated on Friday Dacian Ciolos as agriculture minister to replace Decebal Traian Remes who resigned on Tariceanu’s request on Thursday.
Tariceanu has asked President Traian Basescu to approve Ciolos' nomination, the goverment said in a statement. Ciolos is deputy state secretary in charge of relations with the EU in the Agriculture Ministry.
Remes came under pressure from the media to resign after Romanian prosecutors requested to investigate him on allegations of abuse of power.
The European Commission earlier this week warned Romania to put right serious shortcomings in its administration and financial control system for EU farm aid in one month or face a provisional 25% cut in payments.
Remes was appointed agriculture minister in April.
